The Gray Whale is a great sight in the Monterey Bay off shore.

Jelly fish thrive in the waters of Santa Cruz, although these were seen at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Otters have made a comeback after being hunted nearly to extinction, and are now a common sight along the cliffs.

Elkhorn Slough is a large wetlands area just south of Santa Cruz. It is a temporary home for many migratory bird species.

Pelicans are another migratory bird that come through Santa Cruz in great numbers. They look almost prehistoric as they feed along the cliffs.
