The best place to find out this sort of stuff, is by going to the
library, cop shop.. or probably a bunch of other places, and looking
them up in the CA state statute book (forget the exact name, but it'll
be something like that). They probably have a web page too.
After being stopped a few times here in ID, I looked them up.. found
things like:
Tires cannot stick past the fender at all (I think it's just tread, but
might be sidewall too.. open to interpretation I think)
The front of both front and rear fenders must be as low as the top of
the tire, or lower (flatfenders are 'illegal' I guess), and the
fender or some extension (mud flap) must come within 20" of the ground.
The front bumper can only be w/in 31" off the ground and the rear 30"
(or vice versa, I forget), if you don't have a rear bumper, then the
bottom of the body must be withing 30"... etc.
Then they've got a really nice one about exhausts.. something to the
effect that it's illegal to run anything that produces more noise than
stock, it's illegal to make any modifications that deviate from stock
(to the exhaust system) and it's illegal to sell any parts that do this
too.. so how come every shucks in North Idaho has that barrel full of
red glasspacks?
And there were a few others regarding window tint and headlight
heights.. ect.
If anyone wants a copy of the Idaho reg's, let me know.

Subject: Fixit Ticket
I just got my tires/wheels back from my friend. He had his brother
take his truck in to fix the ticket while he was working......so realize
this is second hand info.
His ticket was a CHP (California Highway Patrol for the outta staters
:-) ticket......and the truck had to be brought to the CHP to get the
ticket written off.
Appearently they had a rather accurate gadget to measure weather the
tires actually 'fit' under the fenders or not. My 32's on stock
rims...."JUST" passed. I got the impression it was within a couple
millimeters. Without the little chrome trim piece of the wheel well, it
probably wouldn't have passed.
The measurement was taken at the outter most lug (some of the lugs on my
Bridgestone MT's are offet differently than the lugs next to
them)....not from the sidewall. That's good to know.
What a PITA!
