I have done a lot of business with a local Toy 4x4 yard in San Jose:
Toyota 4x4 Dismantlers - (408)436-7890. I don't know if they regularly
ship long distances or not.

There is a yard on the net that does a lot of mail order stuff,
Toyota Auto Parts, I have not dealt with them, but have heard good
things: http://www.taprecycling.com/

Also, I just heard of another yard in southern CA, I have not talked
to them, but I saw a couple nice 4Runners that he had sold some
happy customers: Bernie's Toy Parts (310)518-2685

Just my opinion but I would put TAP righ up there with Northwest, only a
last resort!! There are atleast three other Toyota wreckers right next to
TAP that are a lot better!

I'll second this recommendation. Bernie's saved my butt when I needed a
new front driveshaft for my old 85 three days before leaving to Canada for
a month. They've got a pretty good stash of parts, lots of body parts and
so forth.
They are also located in one of the dirtiest areas of LA, in the
industrial area behind the harbor. Don't be surprised if you get
propositioned by one of the locals while visiting Bernie's. :)

ATK engines sells complete long blocks for around 1600 with 3 year 36000
mile warranty and if breaks you can take it toany Toyota dealer to fix
and ATK will pick up the bill. It might not be a super motor but it will
be bored and you can put a cam in there while it's out. Btw ATK's price
has no core charge so you could probably sell your old long block for
something to help offset some of the cost

Laura,After recently having tranny problems with my 90 unit I was thinking
rebuild until I found out how much some of the Toyota Only parts were
going to cost some of the gears were like 200 bucks for just one!!!!!
I bought a complete gear box (transfer not included) from T.A.P. in CA
for 625.00 delivered to my door with 6 month warranty. All I had to do
was bolt it up and go. Getting a used tranny isn't as good as rebuilding
it yourself and knowing what's in there but heck 1700.00 vs 625.00 I'll
go with the 625 plus I really think if the replacement tranny is junk it's
going to go within 6 months. Some say T.A.P. will rip you off but
everything I have ever bought from them I have been satisfied with and
has been delivered right when they say it will with no problems anyone
ever have a prob with em?
just my $0 .05 worth..
T.A.P. 800 765 7100
btw the replacement tranny is a 91 unit so I moved up a year;-)
