Subject: Digest Subject Matter
To: Toy 4x4 List
With all the discussion of Digest Subject Matter I've decided to make
this announcement early. As soon as the list is switched over to run on
Majordomo I will be taking over as the Toy4x4 List Administrator.
Jack no longer has the time availible to be the Admin for the list, and
in recent days has not been able to watch where the digest matter has
headed, and keep the list on subject. His many months of service are
very appreciated though, this list would not be the great source of
Toyota information it is today without him.
- --
Since I will be taking over as Admin, this is a great time to review
some of the rules of this list. Here are some things to watch out for
when posting to the Toy4x4 List:
* Excessive quoted material -- When replying to a message only quote the
minimum necessary to thread the message. The extra material (fluff)
should be deleted.
* Too much blank space - limiting blank space helps reduce the size of
the digest.
* Signature too long -- sigs are limited to five lines. (see note below
about ASCII art)
* Profanity - Profanity is unacceptable and is cause for me to remove
you from the list.
* Messages not related to the list subject matter -- This list is for
the discussion of Toyota 4x4 Pick-ups & 4Runners and related info, and
will not be allowed to stray too far. (Example: talking about what
speakers will fit where in a Toyota truck is acceptable. Debating which
speaker is better than another is unacceptable) This includes, but it
not limited to, technical questions and answers, trip reports, Toyota
stories, Toyota trivia, etc. Do not use the list as a personal chat
area. Messages that are meant for only one person or do not benefit the
list as a whole should be sent directly to the other party, not the
list.
Accidents will happen, and I will give maximum leeway for errors in
posting but repeated abuse of these rules can get you banned from the
list.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Scott Wilson, List Admin

No need to bring up the sub/unsub discussion again...in the near future
the list will be using Majordomo...all these sub/unsub messages will
AUTOMATICALLY be removed. :-)
In the meantime....for ANY administrative chages...including
unsubscribing, send an e-mail to
and politely ask to be removed or otherwise.
In the following couple days the changes will go into effect.
Scott

The Toyota 4x4 Mailing List
RULES AND CONDITIONS of this list (toy4x4@tlca.org)
Ver. 116-1
Purpose: To discuss and share experiences about Toyota 4x4's.
This list is specifically designed for owners, users, or enthusiasts of
Toyota 4x4's, except Land Cruisers, there is another list devoted to
that subject.
Discussions center around technical and mechanical matters,
driving techniques, and trip reports. Many officers of TLCA subscribe
to this list but this is not the primary means of contacting them.
The Toyota 4x4 Mailing List is unmoderated. Your postings are sent
directly to the subscribers without intervention by the administrator.
Please keep your postings in good taste and within the list's subject
area. The administrator reserves the right to deny service to anyone
and will exercise such right in a heartbeat to serious transgressors of
common civilities. Don't screw with me on this one. Do not post
copyrighted material without permission of the author(s). The views
expressed in the Toyota 4x4 Mailing List are thoseof the individual
authors only.
Send mail messages in standard ASCII text only! Do not use BinHex,
uuencode or other tools to encode messages. Do not send characters
with the 8th bit set. Repeated abuse of this rule can get you banned from
the list.
Subscriptions to the list are free. Land use managers (i.e., Bureau of Land
Management, US Forest Service, Dept of Natural Resources, etc.) are
encouraged to participate in discussions.
Commercial advertisement is prohibited on the list. Vendors are free to join
in discussions as long as they do not turn it into advertising, keep the
claims accurate, do not bash the competition, and give relevant technical
information on a subject. Manufacturer's offroad product announcements
are encouraged. Personal advertising of a non-commercial nature for
offroad related items is allowed. Claims made in such ads are unverified
and buyer assumes risk.
To post to the list, mail to: toy4x4@tlca.org
For Administrative matters (sign up, unsubscribe, mail problems, switch
between realtime/digest modes, etc), mail to:
toy4x4-request@tlca.org
If you are having problems reaching the tlca.org host, the
administrator can be contacted at toy4x4@ro.com in an emergency.
This list is available as a DIGEST option [default] or a REALTIME option.
For subscribers to the DIGEST option, messages are collected during the
day and sent as one message to subscribers at 4:00am PST(USA West
Coast time). For subscribers to the REALTIME option, each poster's
message is immediately forwarded to the subscribers. Subscribers may
subscribe to the digest option, the realtime option, or both.
NOTE: New subscribers are always subscribed in digest mode first, to
make sure that their address is working ok. After several days, they may
ask to be changed to realtime mode.
If you have not posted your bio, please post it. Please ask the administrator
for the bio format if you have not receive one.
If you will be leaving your school/company or otherwise lose your account,
tell the administrator to unsubscribe you!
If you are going away temporarily and do not want your mail box to overflow
in your absence, ask the administrator to unsubscribe you. Be sure to
mention that you are going on "vacation." When you return, send mail to
be "resubscribed".
In your posts to the list, please put your Internet return address at the
end of your post so people can reply to you personally if they want.
With today's distributed architectures and client-server setups, the
"From: " header line is frequently inaccurate.
If you are a TLCA member, please show your member ID# with your
signature. Another purpose of this list is to generate interest in and
membership for TLCA, and your showing as a TLCA member helps.
To cut down on excessive bandwidth, please refrain from lengthy
signatures and large blocks of ascii drawings
Suggestions for other topics to include in the monthly posting are welcome.
