Jay, what do you carry as a spare for the Birfield? Both front axles,
or just an axle stub, the balls, and the ringy thingy?

PS - what else do you carry? Maybe it's time to start filling out our
spare parts kits.

I carry stuff I know has caused me problems, plus extras I have lying
around including:
- - Igniter/coil (not new, but known good)
- - Distributor pickup (New - haven't needed it yet)
- - Spark plugs
- - Rear Drive shaft front half (with a worn u-joint that is serviceable)
- - New U-joint (in case the rear-rear goes)
- - Starter (my old one, but it works 98% of the time, just a few worn teeth)
- - Fuel pump (bought a new one, haven't installed it yet)
- - Duct tape
- - JB Weld
- - Piano wire
- - Hook-up wire and splices
- - Hoses, fluids, nuts/bolts, etc
- - Spare tire, hi-lift jack, first-aid kit
- - Tool kit (basically all the tools I own)

I usually carry one of each side complete axles.....assembled.

I always have this in my truck:
usual array of tools plus a hub socket
silicone sealer, hand cleaner
1 gallon oil, ps fluid, brake fluid, 1 quart tranny fluid
grease, 2 quarts ATF, 1 gallon water
tow strap
flashlight
jack and tire tools
bungees/motorcycle tie-downs
jumper cables
spare belts, hoses, fuel line, nuts, bolts, duct tape, elec. tape,
spark plugs, dist. cap, coil, fuel pump, bailing wire, block of wood
gloves, folding shovel, spare front wheel bearings, lug nuts, etc.

When I go wheeling hard trails I add:
complete front axle shaft assemblies
one rear axle shaft
front driveshaft
rear driveshaft
tie-rod
u-joint
steering arm (oh yeah)
draglink
hubs
