To those of you that have not heard of the Toyota Land Cruiser
Association I wish to extend an invitation to join, it's for
Pickup and 4Runner owners too.
******************************
Before I get to the common questions I would like to make a
statement about the makeup of our membership. TLCA is open to
all Toyota 4WD vehicles except sedan types. This includes all
models of Land Cruisers, 4Runners, and 4x4 mini pickup's.
With that said I must point out that the majority of our members
own Land Cruisers. Our percentage of others is probably less than
10%. Hopefully this may change in the future. We welcome all
Toyota 4X4's but our focus is primarily Land Cruisers. It is not
our intent to "sideline" the other vehicles but in reality, because
of the low number of non-Land Cruisers and the small input from
these members, most of our material is about Land Cruisers. I say
this because we would not want to take your money and have
you later regret it for what ever reason.
Even though, the non-Land Cruiser members we have seem to enjoy TLCA
membership and reading Toyota Trails. There are some ads catering
to the others and from time to time we have done some tech articles
and we will always give the same priority to articles submitted by
members no matter what they drive.
********************************
In January 1976, Bob "Snake Eyes" Garrett started TLCA with a local club,
Toyota Land Cruiser Association Ventura County. Bob's idea of a national
organization of TOY owners has become a reality. We now have many
chapters in California and at least one in Nevada, Tennessee, Washington,
British Columbia, Ontario, Utah, Colorado, New Jersey, Ohio, Alaska,
Illinois,
Oregon, Georga, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Massachusetts; with more in the
works in such places as Kansas,Texas, Arizona, N. Carolina and more in
Canada. We also have individual members (not associated with a Chapter)
spread throughout the U.S. and Canada. As a matter of fact, individual
members
make up two thirds of our total membership, now at over 2,200 members.
We are expecting our membership to exceed 2,500 very soon.
Q. What benefits come with membership?
A. The biggest benefit is the subscription to Toyota Trails, our
bi-monthly publication. It has been called the ultimate resource for
Land Cruiser parts and aftermarket products. Every major Land Cruiser
supplier and most smaller suppliers in the US and Canada advertise
in Toyota Trails.
We also have a great classified section (free to members) where you'll
find new and used parts and vehicles, sold and wanted by members.
We do tech articles on every aspect of maintenance and modification
(eventually). We also have a Tech Exchange section where you can get
answers to your questions or just comment on other members questions.
You'll also find many interesting articles on trail rides, funny stories,
trail tips, first aid, and more. And Toyota Trails is loaded with pictures
and drawings of our favorite vehicles.
As a member you are able to receive many "member only" discounts with
many of our business suppliers (Associate Members). Not all AM's give
discounts but enough do so that the cost of your TLCA membership could
be returned in discounts alone. Our AM's also advertise exclusive
product sales that only our members see.
Q. Can I see a copy of Toyota Trails for myself?
A. Just contact the Membership office by phone. fax or E-mail for
an info packet which will include a free mini-sample copy
Q. Does TLCA have off road events?
A. Yes, we currently have five annual Association events.
Rubithon, our most popular run, held the third weekend in June, is
a great way to experience the famous Rubicon Trail in the California
High Sierra's.
The Great Smoky Mountain Trail Ride, in Tennessee/North
Carolina, has trail rides for both the meek and the bold.
The Gold Lake "Crawdad" Poker Run, held near Sierra City CA
on Labor Day weekend, is a fun event for those of all skill levels
and also provides some unscheduled time to enjoy the many trails
and other nearby attractions -- anyone like donkey races?
The Catamount Cruiser Challenge, located in the Mowhawk Trail are
in Massachusetts is a great Fall event and draws vehicles from
throughout the east.
The Glitter Gulch Gambol, held near Las Vegas Nevada in October,
is another popular desert event.
And we are always working to start events in any part of the US.
In addition, our Chapters have their individual runs all year and
you can find information on them in each issue of the newsletter.
Q. OK, I want to become a member right away. Can you FAX me an
application?
A. Yes, just call our Membership office and provide us with your
FAX number. You can also get an application from our Web page (see
URL below).
Q. What about paying with a Credit Card?
A. No problem, we accept VISA and MC.
Q. What will I receive when I become a member?
A. Within 4-5 weeks you'll receive a confirmation letter, membership
card with your personal ID# (necessary for discounts), two 3" TLCA
decals and one TLCA dash plaque to proudly display that you're a
Toyota Land Cruiser Association member. There is usually other
"stuff" included but that changes continually.
Q. And the bottom line?
A. Would you believe $20.00! What a bargain.
We are working on getting more exposure so that TLCA can spread the
word and we encourage you to join us, possibly starting your own
chapter one day. It's quite a special feeling to be part of a long
line of TOYS, making your way over the trail or, after the run,
trading stories around the campfire.
