This sound is coming from the spring-clip that retains the clutch
release fork to the pivot ball inside the clutch housing.

A quick peek through the dust boot just to confirm the clutch release
fork is intact is not a bad idea (yes, they can break), just do not
spray anything inside the clutch housing--The disc may become
contaminated.

The sound should not be a cause for concern. Next time the trans. is
down, smear some grease on the pivot stud and clutch fork where they
join.

Before replacing the TO bearing, make sure the squeak isn't coming
from the clutch pedal mounting bracket. Firewall flex when you depress
the pedal causes the metal to fatigue and hairline cracks can make
annoying squeaking sounds when the pedal is depressed (typically
worse when _released_ than depressed though since this happens
more slowly). This kind of problem can come and go with temperature.
If lubricating at the tranny _repeatably_ fixes the problem this
probably isn't it, but I mention it because it took months of
periodic fiddling for me to track down this fault in my own truck.
I couldn't believe the amount of firewall flex that goes on when
when the clutch is depressed.. A real shocker when I measured it.
At any rate, if the squeaking continues even when the clutch pedal
isn't moving, it won't have anything to do with the linkage and
its time to look at the tranny.

Eric,
The clutch doesn't squeak when it isn't moving, it makes no
noise. It also doesn't squeak when I release the clutch either, only
when I am depressing it. It makes the squeaking more sometimes than it
does others and sometimes it doesn't make it at all. It sounds like the
squeak is coming from outside the truck too, not the inside.

Have you checked for a leaking slave cylinder?? That would be my first
thing to check...

Sounds a lot like the clutch is not dis-engaging, making it real hard
for the synchros to work... probably a mechanical problem with the
slave cyl, the shift fork, the shift fork-ball, or even a bad clutch
disk.

THIS one sounds like the bushing on the shift lever is SHOT, I think most
people that replaced theirs have done it with the trans still installed, and
the bushing's like $4? Check the archives for details... It might be the
entire problem that you're having is slopppy shifting not aligning the forks
during a shift. It's a lot cheaper than all the above, need to be done
anyhow, and a good (cheap) place to start FIRST...
