Yeah - all you guys are gonna smack me for this idea...

Cleaning the K&N is a pain. Mainly waiting fer the thing to dry so you can
re-oil it. Ive tried every accelerant to drying known - and none really
make it faster, just add "baby sit" time.

So - I KEPT the dirty old nasty inefficient paper filter in the stock
cardbord box. I put it on the shelf. When I clean the K&N, I put the
paper filter back in the airbox. Drive around fer a day or two. The K&N
is siting on the shelf in the window so the sun dries it out real nice.
I oil the sucker and take the paper filter back out.
ZERO down time!

What about just putting the wet cleaned filter in the engine and idling it
for a few minutes? Wouldn't the air passing by dry it out? Then oil it and
hit the road.

Just a thought that might get me smacked instead.

After you clean it, put it back in the air box and start it
up and let it idle for 5-10 minutes, take it out ,re-oil it,
put it back in.

El,

Putting a K&N air filter is the first mod. I make to any of my vehicles.
It's an easy way to pickup a few extra mpg and I have also always been able
to notice a difference. Always keep the paper filter though to use while the
K&N is drying and to put in your vehicle before any kind of service work.
I've heard stories of warranty problems or the filter just disappearing while
the vehicle was being worked on. Order the filter, it's well worth the money,
don't forget the cleaner and oil.

I use a K&N Airfilter in my 92' 4X4 22RE and would never go back to
paper.... Here in my home state (at least in the northern part) the
temperature gets down pretty low in the winter. I have never encountered
any problem with gumming up of the K&N filter oil. Even when I lived in
an even colder place where winters can be brutal the K&N worked flawless.
Just make sure you don't apply too much oil (or too little for that matter).

Engine Oil... Everybody has their favorite, and I am no exception. My
Toyota has always been run with Mobil1 synthetic. Yes it does cost a few
bucks more per quart, but I think the advantages far outweigh the costs.

My two cents,
