If I remember correctly there is a pin about 3/16" thick that is a
stopper for the larger pin, I have now done four lock rights (basically
the same) and they all went easy so I think you are missing something.
Nothing was hard to remove and there was no mushrooming involved. I
don't mean to sound stupid but are you following the directions? I will
go take a look at my Lock Right directions and see if it triggers my
memory if there is a trick to removing the pin.
Good Luck

Rob,
Are you working on a solid surface such as a work bench or vise anvil?
This really makes a difference. I assume you have removed the
differential case (ring gear, spiders, etc.) from the housing right?
E-mail me directly if you need more help.

Do you remember removing the pin? did you hammer it out with a pin
prick? My instructions start at the point of the locker install, no
mention of removing the spider gears . It reminds me to put the pin back
on reassembly. thanks for the help. oh yea, there is a particular
direction that the pin comes out isn't there? i'm moving the pin toward
the ring gear side as the othe side seems to have a taper to it. Rob

Well, around town sometimes I get scared its not working cause it feels like
its not even there. You know how it is when you get something new and you
can feel its presence. The only bad thing, really just an annoyance, is
slow lazy low gear turns and it makes the truck lurch when it goes in and
out. Kinda like I can't drive my 5 speed or something. Mainly, that
happens in Gas stations and parking lots where people look up and get a grin.
Install was simple if you can pull the 3rd member you can do it all. I did
have to remove the ring gear to get the side gear pin out. Brass or propane
persuasion needed here. Install was pure simplicity, the manual was great.
The hardest thing for me was getting the damn thing back in the rear end of
my truck. About 50-60 pounds my guess at a very awkward angle.
