Sorry if your questions have already been answered....
I've been interstate for work, so am still reading back issues for the last
week..

For the squeaky rear springs all you have to do is...
(It's a pain in the ass...)

Remove your spring's, unbolt the center bolt, pull them apart and clean
them... Just clean with a steel brush softly... Once you have done that,
Grease them....
I use some really thick Lithium based grease.....
Then put back together..
I do this about once every 1 - 2 years.
Tip: Once you have done this. Do not clean your SPRINGS with a high
pressure cleaner. It washes all the grease away leaving you with a dirty
driveway and squeaky springs.

Chris, I have the Downey 3" lift springs on my 95 1/2 Tacoma. They came with
poly bushings and squeeked real bad. I took them apart and greased them with a
grease that included graphite that I found at the local parts store. The sqeaks
have all gone now. You have rubber bushings on your stock springs so, I don't
know if this will help. I don't think it would hurt the rubber though. I
greased every thing including the bolt, sleeve, rubber and spring so it'll have
to be taken apart. Hope this helps. Terry

James,

If you find the cure for the squeak, squeak, I'd be very interested in
knowing how. My 95.5 Tacoma's rear leafs squeak pretty bad and can be
heard easily. It seems to be coming from the front mount area. I've
tried spraying wd-40 and it does help a little for a short amount of
time.

Anyone's suggestion would be graetly appreciated.

Thanks,

In a message dated 97-06-25 02:44:39 EDT, you write:

 itself. >>

I don't think it is possible for the spring to squeak. A squeak is caused
from two surfaces rubbing together and moving air. I don't think the spring
itself can do that alone. I would bet the sound is resonating and just
sounds like it is coming from there. When you sprayed, you probably got the
base too. That is probably where it comes from.

I don't believe he was saying "one leaf" was squeaking. I think it was
leaves. The leaves are stacked on each other which is two (even more
than two) surfaces rubbing together, which could squeak. Metal on metal
can squeek, and the WD-40 he put in there would be able to stop it.

I would have to disagree, squirt some power steering fluid on them and
you'll hear them squeak(don't do it), when your suspension works the
leaves slide along eack other and if they bind at all they will squeak.

Hey david,
Scott was correct in that I wasn't saying that one leaf was creating a
squeak. On the Tacoma, the second leaf(lower), comes all the way up
underneath the mounted leaf eye and looks to be designed as a mild
protective plate. So these two leafs have almost direct contact all the
way to the front mount. This is definately where the squeak was.
