This is just a basic labor estimating guideline for shop labor.
Actually, the book time is more like 4.5 hours. You can easily remove
the 'case yourself. Basically, you drain the x-fer lube, remove the
x-fer gearshift lever, support the transmission with a jack or jack
stand, remove the crossmember, speedo. cable, and the x-fer retaining
bolts.
Assembly is the reverse, just use caution with the transmission to x-fer
seal. It can be damaged by the transfer input if you are not careful.

I have had my transfer case out twice in the past month while chasing
my own vibration problem. You need to remove the shifter from inside
the cab, and detach the speedometer cable and dash light wire. There
are only 6 bolts that hold the transfer case to the transmission. The
top two are a little hard to reach, but if you carefully let the back
of the transmission sag down about 3 inches after removing the
crossmember you will be able to get them out. Be sure to pull the
transfer case straight off of the transmission so you don't damage the
seal. You should probably replace the seal anyway, and you will
definitely need a gasket. The gasket is about $1.50 and the seal is
about $5.00. I have been able to lift the transfer case by hand and
carefully replace it, although this takes a pretty heavy bench press
maneuver.
