"Looking for tech advice in all the right places!

I have a 1987 FJ-60 with a stock U.S. distributor and a Webber 32/36
carb.

My questions involve the vaccum ports on the distributor. There are 2.

Should I run the vaccum line to the carb from:

a. The inner port (closest to center if dist.)?

b. The outer port (farthest from center)?

c. Both?

I have gotten conflicting info in the past.

Are both ports for advance or is one advance and the other retard? If the
latter, which is which?

How do you feel about running the timing advaced 5 - 10 degrees ahead of
factory spec? This comes highly recommended by Downey, but I'm not sure
if it applies to my year vehicle.   "



	Carburator vacum should be plumbed to the advance side of the 
diaphram (furthest from the distributor body). Manifold vacum should be 
plumbed to the retard side of the diaphram (closest to the dist body). This 
is assuming of course that you have done away with whatever vacum switching 
devices it was all originally routed through in conjunction with 
the "Emissions Equipment".


	I normally run static timing as far advanced as the particular 
engine/vehicle/gasoline combination will allow. Advance it in small 
increments until you begin to get spark knock under heavy load. Back it off 
just a tiny amount from that point. You're all set.

I have this part, keep your money ... a 22R isn't a fire breathing V8,
so a slight change in advance doesn't yield 25 new horses, more
like NO new horses in my opinion ... definitely not worth the money
nor the time it took to install it. If you want more power, first
I'd install a header/bigger exhaust, then a weber, then a cam and if
that still isn't enough put in a bigger motor !

This is a dust cover for the signal generator (pick-up coil). In the old
days, the only way to repair it was to throw-away the whole distributor
and buy a new one complete with the new signal generator (or get a used
one). The sticker was to discourage anyone from messing with it.

I had one but after pinging and knocking and never finding the right
spot for where the new timing should be I took it out and trew it as far
as I could...
